i5 4670k VS i7 4770k

Hello Guys , So i'm planing to upgrade from my 6 years old PC and i have a choise between the i5 4670k and the i7 4770k but the price between them is like 100$ i want to save this money trying to get an MSI 780GTX.

My usage gonna be Games running on Ultra at 1080P , music Production like Ableton FL Studio , CueBase , Kontakt .. ,maybe some editing but not that much.

So is the i5 is great for me or i'll wait till i get the money to but the i7 . Thanks i'm waiting for the help.

For once, I don't really recommend getting the 780 gtx. Only if you need PhysX and can't afford the 780 ti. Otherwise I'd go with a 290(x).
As for the CPU, don't get either of them. Your choice should be between i5 4690k and i7 4790k.

If your main activity is gaming, go with the i5, if you render a lot go with the i7.

The 290X is much expenseive here i found the MSI R9 290 which is like 80$ cheaper do you recomend this card for me ? i'm an Nvidia Fan Boy but if this one is good so i'll take it

for gaming the i5 is better, and it can certainly handle the audio stuff with ease. The i7 would make more sense if you decide to stream gameplay, or render video/3d.

as mentioned try to get the i5 4690k instead as they are usually priced the same, it has MUCH better TIM and overclocks well.

i should have clarified, the i5 is better for a strict gaming machine, HT can hurt performance with games. Helps renders a ton though.

Yes i have a very limited budget for now i only can affrod the i5 and the R9 290 / 770GTX card , i was asking if i need to wait much more to get the i7 and the 780GTX , i'm wondering if music production software take advatage from HT

the music production software probably isnt too intensive at all. youd likely see little or no gains from the i5 to the i7.

the r9 290 will draw more power and create more heat, but the extra Vram will def have the 780 beat at higher resolutions (like 1440p)

If you're going for the R9 290, you must get a card with a good cooler to avoid any issues. The best there are, are the Tri-X and Vapor-X coolers.

Actually, when you can get a i5 4690k and a 780 gtx, you can as well get the i7 4790k with the r9 290 for even higher performance and 30 dollar less.

As previously mentioned, get a version with a good cooler (like the Tri-X) and that you have a strong enough PSU, then you'll be fine.

You seem to be somewhat settled on Nvidia. Afterall, it's your choice. But a i7 4790k with a r9 290 will beat i5 4690k with 780 gtx or i7 4790k with 770 gtx by ease.

Anyway, the MSI r9 should be fine. I guess you don't intend to overclock the hell out of it.

For your budget, definitely. You won't see an improvement in games with the gtx 780. The only reason you could choose the gtx 780 over the r9 290, is noise and heat.

But for gaming the r9 290 wins or equals hands down against the 780 performance wise.

And yeah, with that CPU/GPU combo you'll be able to play pretty much any game on the market on ultra up to 1440p without any framerate issues.

Would you pay $100 more for physx? :l But that is indeed a reason to go with the 780, if you do want/use physx. (While we're at it, there's also shadowplay)
