Hey everyone,

I have a cyberlab at home that I use for testing softwares, operating systems, and anything else IT related. I use VMware workstation mainly to test servers and all of that. My question is, should I upgrade my I5 4670K to an I7 4790K? Will I see much of a difference for the stuff I do?

My current specs:
I5 4670K
16 gigs of RAM
250 gig SSD
1T hard drive
two GTX 660's

Whether you will see any difference depends on how many tasks are competing for dispatch. The referenced i7 runs about 11-16% faster than the i5 and the i7 has hyper-threading that allows more concurrency. If any of those factors present a bottleneck, then you will notice a difference. Whether it will be a difference worth $330 that the upgrade will cost you is hard to predict.

Actually its only about 250.00 at my local PC store. Today I was running Mac OS X, Sophos Firewall, and Windows Server 2012 on VMware Workstation. On top of that Steam and websites on my PC. I didn't have any issues at all actually 😀.

if youre having no issues why do you want to upgrade.

Because I'm a technie, and I love new hardware. The second reason is because its only 250.00 right now in my area. The third reason is because I'm wondering what type of difference I'd see. Those are the only reasons I can think of right now 😀😀
