This setup is very cheap for OCing right now.

£160 for the CPU
£55 for the Mobo
£25 for the Cooler

What's the best overclock I'll be able to get on this setup? Would at least 4.2 be possible?

Also what would be better for OCing? the Z87 G41 PC Mate or the Gigabyte GA-Z87-DS3H?

Solution
The "Best OC" will depend heavily on how lucky you are. It can vary widely dependent upon the quality of your individual CPU. 4.2 GHz should be relatively easy to obtain. 4.4 GHz would be a "Maybe" and you could get 4.6 GHz if you are real lucky.

I like MSI Intel mobos. My MSI Z87-G43 has performed very well for me over the past year of use.

Would the Z97P D3 from Gigabyte do better than the other 2 I have mentioned?

I'm not familiar with Gigabyte mobos so I can't really comment on those. However, I feel that it makes sense to buy the latest, most up-to-date technology, so if I were buying right now, I'd get a Z97 mobo and a Devils Canyon CPU (i5 4690 or i7 4790).
