Hello!

So I found a good deal for a gtx 1070 ti, and since some pretty nice game are coming out in 2019 I bought it and upgraded from a gtx 970. Unfotunaly I overestimated the power of the i5 4690k, and peformance hasn't increased as much, as I hoped on a 1080p 144hz monitor. Since I read that a higher resolution Monitor would use the gpu more than the cpu, would an upgrade to 1440p be very beneficial?

Also since I'm asking, does a 8gb to 16gb ram jump make a large diffrence in fps?

Thanks for answers in advance

Well even at 1440p you will have some CPU limitations. But, moving to 1440p is not a bad idea. I think since you have the 1070 Ti now you should upgrade your PSU first. And if you don't have a good CPU cooler get one of those also. Then you will be set for a long time in those departments and you can try overclocking before you spend a lot of money on a monitor that won't get you better performance just better visuals.

Really depends on the games in question (for the CPU and/or more RAM).

Generally speaking, increasing resolution asks more of the GPU and lightens the load on a CPU - but there's a balance involved. 4K on a 2080TI paired with a dual core Celeron for example, not such a great idea.

A 4690K is still a respectable CPU, but if you're playing really CPU intensive, open-world type games AND playing at 1080p, then it may well hold you back some.

Are you monitoring in-game utilization? How does CPU/Memory/GPU utilization look?

What kind of performance changes did you see post-upgrade? In what games?

For example, in the game Kingdome Come Delivrance the cpu usage ranges from 100% to 90% in certain areas and sometimes dips down to 70% in others. As for the gpu it is about 90 to 99%. I get about 15 to 40fps on ultra settings.

In watch dogs 2 I get pretty much 100% cpu usage most of the time and gpu usage ranges from 70 to 80%. I guess the cpu bottlenecks the gpu here very hard. As for fps I get 30 to 55 fps in ultra settings.

I would have expeted for Kingdome Come delivrence to peform better, as I have seen others get much better fps with the 1070 ti. And the cpu doesn't seem the bottleneck the cpu because of its high usage.

Also: I noticed that changing the graphics settings doesn't improve the fps much. For example, in the game Kingdome C.D. changing from ultra to medium increases ca. 10fps and in watchdogs like 20fps.

I have the asrock z87m pro4 motherboard. I am not to keen to oc, since I use a 430w psu for the gtx 1070ti and 500w are recommended. So I don't want to push the boundries. Also to mention, I have 8gb of ram, do you recon that it could affect my fps dramatically? I have two ddr3 4gb ram memories, so I couldl just buy another 2 of them.
