depends on what type of gaming your going to do.
with that you will be able to play most games at ultra setting 1080 and even some games at 2k

you'll play most games at 1440p comfortably on high settings,
however the PSU isn't great.
since the asus z97 A motherboard allows for SLI you should pick up an XFX 750W Gold or EVGA G2 supernova 750W power supply

I don't have any specific games that I would like to play. I am really just looking for something solid that can handle what is currently out there. If there is anything on the list that is not worth the price or is notorious for problems and compatibility, please let me know as this will be the first computer I will have ever built.

well without a doubt it can handle any game at 1080 ultra and 1440p at high and even most 4k games at mid-low setting
