So I've been looking around and saw that the 17 4790k was the only i7 that uses lga 1150. I know there are other i7s out there but I just don't want to buy another motherboard and ddr4 ram. So would the upgrade from a it 4690k be any different from a i7 4790k?

In the occasion where it can use 8 threads fully it'll be around 40-45% stronger. Anything that loads one thread up the most it'll be 0% stronger(if you clock them the same speed) I'm not saying don't do it but definitely look for a good deal on the 4790k

Yeah, I plan to keep the same board and ram. 4790k seems like the best at the moment.

Well vsneou, I have been using 4790k for last 4 years and have intention to use it next 2 to 3 years, or maybe more, who knows :). Excellent cpu. Just upgraded ram from 8 to 16 gb of ddr3 which I found pretty cheap (used one). So, no mistake with that cpu.

Best luck!

I have the 4790k - great CPU recommend it if you can get it cheap enough for an upgrade, but don't forget.
If you want to go for a better system, you will sell your old one and add a bit more cash for a newer system.
So you have to weigh up the pro's and con's

OLD THREAD - just realised, hate when this happens.
