i5 4690k with 970GTX?

Yes they work together. No bottleneck at all. You can even run SLI if you want.

Purchase and pwn all.

I just noticed you have the Asus Z97-A mobo. Would you recommend this board? It's the one I was looking at buying for my setup.

I'm sure ifreestylin will agree, the Z97-A is a great board. I typically only recommend the Z97-A or the ASRock Extreme4 as starter overclocking motherboards.

Great! I'm feeling better about the choices I was making since I was torn between the ASRock Extreme6 and the Asus Z97-A with only previous experience with Asus products to pull me towards the Z97.

I have a went through two Zotac GTX 970's and EVGA SC GTX 970's and they all had coil whine.

I would suggest MSI or ASUS from my experience.

The down side to the 970 GTX is many have had this coil whine issue. Try the ASUS Strix.
