Hey guys please help me, i am very new to overclocking and quite scared. Please help explain all the dangers of overclocking to me

And what is a good over clock for me to get? I was looking at first going to 4ghz and slowly increasing to 4.5ghz and staying there. Is this to high? Or is it an okay overclock? I dont want to push it.
Please help thanks

Solution
First, what kind of CPU cooler do you have? You'll need something that's made with overclocking in mind.

Second, your BIOS should have an option like "Load optimized CPU OC Setting". (My Z87M Extreme4 does, and according to google images BIOS hasn't changed much, if it all.) I recommend using it if you are new to OCing. Also you may want to lock CPU voltage to 1.25v (some people suggest this, I actually have mine set to 1.22v on my 4670K) because my Z87M X4's Auto setting for voltage control was causing BSODs left and right.

Lastly, you have the right idea, start with a close to stock frequency and work your way up until you've reached a limit.

Note: Intel highly suggests keeping the CPU below 72.72 degrees Celsius.

Hope this clears...
