i5-6200U w/940MX or i7-6500U w/Intel 520

Both laptops are around £500 after I use my student discount, but I'm not sure which one would be better for me? I'm going to be programming and I might play games if I can, but it's not necessary. I'll be swapping out the hard drive with an SSD in the future.

The i5 is better for games. The i7 is better for everything else.

No, but they're most common with gamers. i7 is better at doing rendering jobs etc but itsn't necessary when it comes to gaming. So if you game alot then choose the i5 and the gtx 960m because the GPU is alot better then the Intel ones. If you're just gonna use it for job etc, then use the i7 and intel hd series.

@Rawberries it's a 940MX btw. I think I'll pick up the i5 then since I'll squeeze some time in for gaming, maybe I'll finally play rust that has just been sitting in my steam library. For college all I use is VB.Net, Dreamweaver and Microsoft Office.

Will work perfect with a i5 because you won't run things such as: sony vegas, photoshop etc. And you're gaming a little so the gtx940mx would be better then a intel hd.

You're not gonna use photoshop or after effect, right? Then you could just stick with the i5 since it's still a good CPU.

@Rawberries I usually run Sony Vegas on my PC which has a Intel Celeron, but I'm only cutting and merging videos so it doesn't take too long to render.
