i5 6400 + 1060 3GB/RX 480 4GB or i3 6100 + 1060 6GB/RX 480 8GB?

As much the title said, which one is better? I only want to play games at 1080p/50-60 fps. I don't plan to SLI/Crossfire. Lower the graphic setting is also ok to me for smooth gameplay. Also games I want to play is Rise of Tomb Raider, Hitman, Division, Overwatch, etc.

For the CPU, anything more than i5 6400 is not on my budget range. For GPU, either Nvidia or AMD is fine. And here's the rest of part that I had choose :

MSI H110m gaming
Avexir Core Red 2133 2x4GB
WDC Blue 1TB
Be Quiet System Power 8 500w

For monitor, I only can buy LED IPS 1080p 60hz with freesync and 5ms response time.

I had a dillema sacrifing between CPU or GPU for the sake to not bottleneck and I never had a gaming pc before, so this is my first time build one. Any advice would help me choose the right build for the future. Thank you!

The RX 480 is too weak to actually utilize the full 8GB RAM. That means by the time you turned up the settings and resolution high enough that more than 4GB was filled, the GPU core would be way over taxed and your frame rates would be crawling. Putting that much RAM on a mid range card is just an old marketing scheme to make a few more dollars on the unknowing.

For 1080p, even a RX 470 would be plenty and possibly save you a few more dollars to get the higher clocked i5-6500, which will raise your minimum FPS and thus provide smoother game play.

So should I pick 470 4GB / 480 4GB or 1060 3GB? 470 is 20$ cheaper meanwhile 1060 and 480 is at the same price 220$

And i5 6500 is kinda over budget for me but I'll try to save money to buy it. Or should I just buy i3 6100 for now and then upgrade to kaby lake when it's released?

4gb for 480 is not enough in higher resolutions , it can utilize all of it when your res goes high , but for 1080p gaming 4 gb is enough and wont be an issue..
so as you will get a freesync monitor 480 4gb is your best choice

Ok, I'll get 480 instead 470 . But whicch CPU that will make a good combo with 480? I'm still confused between i3 or i5... I only have 700$ less to spent and that still not include monitor and other like keyboard, mouse and headphone.

The i3 is good enough for any current games out there. The i5 is just a slight bit better for heavily threaded games, but especially heavily threaded non-gaming work loads. I'm rocking an i3-6100 myself.

maybe you can get both i5 AND 6GB GTX 1060 ? how much is your budget ? and where do you live?

I live in Indonesia. Getting both i5 and 6GB 1060 is kinda imposdible because my budget is only around 700$. Oh btw thanks damric for helpful advice
