[SOLVED] i5-6400 based computer powers on then instantly off ?

I just bought a new motherboard, Ram and Power supply. The only previously used components are a Radeon HD 6870 card and my I5-6400 CPU. I made sure all parts are compatible. my power supply is 430w. The computer powers on and the fans spin for a second then the computer turns off. I have tried removing the Radeon card and nothing different happened. How can I test the CPU or should I just buy a new one? I do not have a spare motherboard

The 300 series chipsets are only compatible with 8th and 9th gen cpus, your 6th gen cpu is not going to work on that board.

While there are higher powered cpus on the supported list given that motherboards limited power setup I wouldn't go higher than a 9600, anything requiring more juice may get limited or cause problems.
