i5 6400 or i3 6100

Hi guy's i got some advice from people to get a build with parts. However i was wondering if i which of these 2 builds i'm about to show you.

I3 6100 8gb ram 1tb gtx 1050 ti or
i5 6400 8gb ram 1tb gtx 1050

I'll be playing games like minecraft,overwatch and rocket league. (I'd appreciate it if no one is telling to get a different build, i just want a answer to this. Thanks!

hands down the i5 6400. the 6400 is a true quadcore CPU with a higher clockspeed while the I3 is a dual core CPU with hyperthreading

I know you said you don't want other build suggestions, but the i3-6100 should no longer be considered now that the Pentium G4560 offers 95% of the performance for ~50% of the cost.

These are most likely prebuilt, so I don't think he has a choice. I too, think that an i3 is no longer an option. G4560 all the way.
i3-6100 is clocked at 3.7Ghz
i5-6400 is clocked at 2.7Ghz
that is a HUGE difference, these perform almost identical in games, thought I'd still take the i5-6400, if you wanted to save a few bucks, the i3 will not disappoint.

I5-6400 go for it and for the GPU? I would go for GTX 1050ti or even GTX 1060 and that my friend will give you a great experience in gaming

My budget for a prebuilt is $300-$420. But the prebuilt doesn't come with a gpu i'm adding a gpu that i'm buying separately with it. So if you could find me a prebuilt pc and a separate gpu with it within 300-420. It would be great!

You should get together a bunch of parts and go to a local store for assembly.

What PSU do they come with? A lot of pre-builts come with junk PSUs, if you're planning on adding a GPU you definitely want to make sure the system can handle extra power draw.

Also i've read some threads saying that the i3 6100 isn't future proofed, and you'll have to upgrade it because somes games won't run since it only has 2 physical cores.

The gpu will only take power from the motherboard. And will 2cores really be enough?

Futureproofed is a silly term, don't use it.
I refer to it as how relevant a CPU will remain into the future.
An i3 will be perfectly fine at that level of performance though, it has 4 threads, its fine.
You won't need to upgrade unless you get a more powerful GPU like a 1070.

The gpu will only take power from the motherboard.

The PSU still has to provide the power even if the card doesn't use a power connector. You'll probably be OK with a low power card like a 1050, but I'd still double check.

Isn't the i7 2600 a old platform?

At the same clock speeds, it's worse, but since the 6400 boosts only to 3.3Ghz and the 2600 to 3.8Ghz and the normal clocks of 2.7Ghz and 3.3Ghz, it's better.
It's clocks are much higher, also some games can use the extra threads.
