I5 6400 with mis h170 gaming edition

Hey guys, I need some help deciding on the 2 components I'm about to buy, can you tell me if the i5 6400 will go well with the msi h170 gaming edition motherboard, I'm getting both components at a discounted price, the board is still sealed in its packaging and the chip is about 4months old comes with warranty.. I'm a total noob I'm also just learning, and this will be my 1st pc build can you help please thanks

It should work fine, but there may be better choices, depending on exactly what you're paying. You may, for instance, be able to get a newer, better B250 board for less (65-70) and the i5 7400 is generally about the same price as the 6400, but faster.

I'm buying the board from someone, and the chip from someone else, the board is still new and the chip is 4 months old 2nd hand, I'm from south africa I'm paying R1600 for the board and R1750 for the i5 6400 chip includes a 4gb ddr4 2133 adata ram, so if you can convert the currency and tell me if it's good deals please

It's hard to say without knowing your local market, but R1600 is more than twice as expensive as a solid entry-level board with all of the basics here in the US, while R1750 would be a really great deal on the CPU. Here, you might expect to pay maybe r800-900 equivalent for a solid B250 board (which is one generation newer), while i5's typically start around r2400. RAM is very cheap and a 4GB stick of DDR4 is worth maybe r250.
