Hello,

I want to have an improved gaming experience on my PC but I don't know which way to go: better cpu or better graphics card.

My current system:
- i5 6500 3.2 ghz
- MSI GTX 1060 3gb
- 2×4gb Crucial Ballistix ddr4 2400 mhz
- Asus H170 Pro Gaming
- 128gb Hyperx Fury SSD
- 1TB Western Digital Blue HDD
- Cooler Master B600 V2 PSU
- Fractal Design Core 2300

I've had this system for 3+ years now (except for the 1060) and I feel like upgrading

For the cpu I had these ideas in mind:
- Sell i5, buy i7 7700
- Sell H170 + i5, buy Z170 and get i5 7600k / 6700k
- Sell H170 + i5 and get B350 + ryzen 5

For the gpu I have now, the 3gb is the limiting factor so I was thinking about trading my 1060 for an RX 570 8gb. Forza Horizon 4 goes way beyond the 3gb I have now...

What's the best way to go from here and doesn't kill my wallet? I want to put in like €150,- total.

Solution
If you are gaming, invest in a faster GPU.

RX570 isn't a huge improvement unless you are running a lot of games that are hitting the 3GB limit on the 1060.

To see a major difference, you need to look at something like the RTX2060 or GTX1070Ti. Perhaps hold out for mid-range Radeon VII cards? Maybe see what the pricing on the GTX1660Ti will be.

If you are looking at replacing the motherboard and gaming is the sole purpose, maybe looking to a Z370/Z390 + 8700k/9700k Way more than your budget, but going from an i5-6500 to a Ryzen 5 is going to be possibly a little worse for gaming. Though it depends on the title, those that like a higher core count will see an improvement

Kind of the long standing problem with mid-range systems. When...

Solution
Not really worth upgrading if this is just for gaming as far as your CPU, i7 will be a bit faster in some games, but usually not to a massively noticeable level. If it was me I would just get a 980Ti/1070/1070Ti off ebay and call it good as far as gaming performance. On the ram, there are a few games that will dip over 8GB, so it would not hurt to bump up to 16GB.
