Hi everyone.

I'm very clued up with PC's and generally hang around learning sites and help people out, however motherboards are my major downfall so this time I need someone to help me out! I have a small selection of options for a motherboard and included 2 RAM speed options.

Could someone pick a MB from the list and explain why they picked it? If I need a certain RAM speed and need to use 2x sticks for dual channel memory mode and this option isn't included you can tell me, it would just cost a fortune to upgrade that with the options I am given on the website. I guess the main factors I don't understand with MB's are the socket types and if the sockets/MB's can effect the performance of the rest of the PC.

Solution
+1 for the Z170 mate . If budget is an issue the B150 should serve you well. I would advise against overclocking an 'unlocked' cpu. The motherboard in generall do not affect performance that much. A good motherboard provides better connectivity and stability.

Get the 2x4 2400 memory, dual channel has better bandwidth than a single stick, increases CPU/RAM performance by 5-6%. And for the motherboard, get the PC mate z170, all skylake CPUs are overclockable but only on z170 motherboards. I'd suggest getting an aftermarket cooler if you want any overclocks, if you are not interested in OC, get the B150

Great information thanks! I am not going to overclock btw but budget is an issue so I would go for the B150.

If you wouldn't mind elaborating a little however to put my mind at ease.

The B150 has 2133 MHz DDR4 as its supported RAM. I presume there won't be any issues installing the 2400 memory?
And secondly aside from the extra USB/SATA/RAM slots/ports, why did you pick the B150M over the H110M? I noticed the B150M RAM slots were very close to that PCI-E slot so that concerned me a little (not sure if I would run into any issues plugging in my card)

It has better storage suppot (more sata, one sataexpress drive, more usb). The vrm seems a little more substantial. Generally the B150 is a tad better than the 110 version.

As for the pci-e/memory i don't thing there is going to be any trouble with that.

Well you both provided great answers. I looked up the 2400 memory should be fine. And since they are assembling this PC for me I guess that card will fit. Ill award CBender simply because you replied to my replies. Both a great help thanks! :)
