can I overclock i5 6500 with GA z170x gaming 3 OR should I get Asrock pro 4 please tell me

u can get either, butonly if the pro4 is z170 platform...but u can hardly OC the 6500 much...more on that here...

u can OC with any z170 board...but that OC will be limited...
z170 boards are meant for OC specifically...but that OC is limited when u dont have an unlocked cpu...

ram is fine, not the issue...
u need to look at ur psu...whether it can give u enuf backing for the oc...also ur cooling solution...

unfortunately the unlocked(K and X) chips are the costliest in their segments specifically due to their overclocking capabilities...
so are the z170 baords due to the same reason...bcoz that is the only board whr u can OC...

i ll still say, that its not worth the effort to OC a locked chip...there wont be any huge performance enhancement that u can tap out of it, compared to a unlocked chip...but then again, its ur decision...

There is i5 oc vs i5 6600k oc i5 6500 kind of won I watched digital foundry they oc 6500 it was beating 6700k in many games but 6600k oc was everytime under 6700k i could not oc the cpu but I will oc the GPU thank u for your time

There are plenty of motherboard options for non-K overclock, but I prefer ASRock best for Skylake. I got my i3-6100 running at 4.6GHz very easily.
