my room gets really hot when I use the computer.
I am looking at Z170 build especially with i5-6500 processor - rated at 65W TDP
However for $20 more I can get the i5-6600k rated at 91W TDP

I am mainly doing some lightroom and web/office work.
I know that the speced TDP is not actually real world data.
will the 6600k run signicantly hotter?
I know that I can overclock the 6600k if I need to - but my main concern is to try to keep my office room cooler.
Another thought I had was gettting the 6600k and underclocking it to 3.2GHz (to match the 6500), would that work to keep the room cooler?

Any thoughts?

The 6500 runs really cool even at full load. Mine maxes out at 50C under stress tests such as Prime64, normal workload is just abvoe 30C and idles at 28C. Go for the 6600K if you think of overclocking in the future otherwise it is a waste of money. Better to spend it on a good cpu cooler like the Noctua NH-U12s.

If it runs really cool, then the stock cooler is fine.

Noctua is silent and so efficient I switch the fan off when browsing the we and doing office work
