I just ordered the i5 6500 and hoping im not going to regret it. Is there a big difference between the 2 of these cpu's when there stock. Also whats the difference between the to when it comes to gaming if the 6600k is overclocked compared to the i5 6500.

Solution
Personally for $48 difference i would have purchased the 6600k as it can be overclocked which eventually will come in handy pushing it as it starts to show its age.My old i5-2500k at stock in bf4 when playing online was showing some lag. I clocked it at 4.4ghz on the 212 evo and it stayed nice and frosty and played much better. Personally the difference from $196 for the 6500 and $244 for the 6600k since you already have a z170 motherboard only makes sense to me. Either way both good cpu's

Personally I would regret getting the 6600k. The 6500 is more than enough to run every game, without bottlenecks, for the next 3 years at least. No point in wasting extra money on the 6600k and even more on aftermarket cooling and even more on a z170 motherboard. Overclocking doesn't give you gaming performance.

well i got a asrock z170 motherboard because i got it for only 70 bucks i got it for a good deal, and i alrdy had a 212 evo, but ya i agree. I was just hoping i didnt make the wrong decision. I still only have a gtx 760 oc i wont be able to replace my gpu for a long time.

I see people still getting the gtx 750ti for budget gpu's do you think my gtx 760overclocked will still last me the next 2 yrs hopefully with my i5 6500.

Also do u know how much of a difference in performance am i losing from going with the i5 6500 instead of the 6600k ?

The 6500 cant be overclocked but the 6600k can be. The Difference is really insignificant and if your using for it gaming its completely fine. Its slightly cheaper to go with a H170 Chipset motherboard and the 6500 than a Z170 Chipset and 6600k and youll get pretty much identical performance.

There won't be any performance loss between the 6500 and 6600k in the next 2-3 years, and the 760 can hold its ground for 2 years with no problem, unless you play the newest games on ultra, but on min it will run everything.

well i got the i5 6500 for 170 bucks which was an amazing deal. It was a big difference from getting the 6600k. I dont see how your 2500k was getting lag in bf4. My current amd 8320 fx handles that game amazingly, and i think the 2500k is a much better cpu.
