Hi guys,

Something definitely wrong with my pc, been searching every thread everywhere and nothing seems to work that doesn't involve spending ridiculous amounts of money.

Firstly, specs:
i5-6600k (3.5GHz Stock)
16GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance RAM
Gigabyte H170-HD3 DDR3-CF (Massive mistake on my part I know...was meant to get a Z170)
MSI GTX1080 8GB
1TB WD HDD
256GB Kingston SSD
Windows 7 64-bit

So for some reason playing any game uses way more CPU than it should. R6 Siege maxes out at a contant 100% which means my mouse cant even update so get constant stutters on the mouse. PUBG I get about 30-80 FPS which seems far too low again 100% usage. It isn't the GPU overloading the CPU because the same thing happened on my GTX 960 before.

When I installed the i5 originally I did a fresh install of everything including OS. I have tried turning off programs until I am running bare minimum except the game, no processes eating CPU in task manager. Temps are running at 30C idle 50C gaming. I updated mobo with latest BIOS.

I run a 144Hz monitor at 1080p tried changing that to 60Hz, no improvement. Graphics running on Very Low or Ultra makes no difference whatsoever. I have noticed that my CPU is running at 3.6Ghz though and not 3.5 like its supposed to, I cant OC on this mobo either so not sure whats gone on there?

On idle my CPU seems to jump about horrendously, from like 5% up to spikes of 20% yet no processes appear to be taking that much CPU. Done full AV scans of both drives too... nothing at all. Going to boot in Safe mode now to see if it's a driver issue somewhere.

I'm so certain that my PC shouldn't be struggling so much cause I've seen others with same CPU and worse GPU running these games at better FPS than me and less usage on CPU.

If anyone solves this I will love you forever.

Just a cheap one from amazon by TeckNet, I've tried different mice as well, and different USB ports to see if that solves the mouse issue, tried setting different polling rates etc

I know FPS are intensive but I've seen benchmarks of people with the same CPU but worse GPU run R6 siege smoothly with over 100FPS, mine is capping at 80FPS no V-sync, running fullscreen.

You may well be right that the mobo is restricting it.

Base frequency for i5-6600K is 3.5Ghz but max turbo boost frequency is 3.9Ghz.
So in single threaded workloads you'd get 3.9Ghz. And if all 4 cores are utilized, you get 3.6Ghz.
