I5-6600K in ASUS Z170M-E D3 with Cosair DDR3 RAM

Hello everyone

So I decided to buy a i5-6600K, my question is:

Will my Cosair vengance 8gb DDR3 fit in the mainboard, and will the processor be able to work with the DDR3?

I read somewhere skylake only supports DDR4, so just wondering before buying

While some manufacturers make boards that support DDR3, Intel specifically warns that the wrong kind of DDR3(that would be normal DDR3) endangers the memory controller on teh CPU.
Go with Skylake and DDR4.
Also, get a better MB if you actually intend to overclock that CPU or donwgrate it to an i5 6500.

Intel specifies low voltage DDR3 for boards that support it with Skylake processors.

Most boards only support DDR4 with Skylake processors, however the ASUS Z170M-E D3 does support DDR3, and ASUS claims that regular DDR3 will work (http://www.kitguru.net/components/motherboard/anton-shilov/asusteks-intel-z170-mainboards-will-work-correctly-with-ddr3-1-5v1-65v-modules/), however given the low cost for 8gb ddr4 ram I wouldn't risk burning out your memory controller just to save $30-$40, especially when that motherboard costs $10-$20 more than say the ASUS Z170-P

Yea the thing is I got 32 GB DDR3 RAM in my pc, so it would be a waste to let them rest on my desk.

And about the other motherboard, well my cabinet is really really small, so I can only use m-atx mainboards.

Besides, is there a big difference between DDR3 and DDR4?

Yes. The difference is that with DDR3 you may burn your CPU. you shoulkd sell you RAM and get DDR4, or get a Haswell config. I would opt for the former, as DDR4 has about 10 years ahead of it so so it'll last you several builds.
