Hello everyone,

I wish to build a gaming rig but I stucked on this CPU issue.

I need a CPU, which is able to handle the new games for at least 2 or 3 years.

As a graphic card I going to use GTX970.

I wondering, should I stick with i5 6600K or is it better to look i7's?

Best Regards

Thinking strickly in the future i said go for the I7, you will have an amazing CPU to 5 years easily. If you have plans move Windows 10 and DX12, it seems DX12 will use quad and octa cores in a more efficient way.

Also for multitask i7 its better. I always seen the I5 k series as the best gaming cpus in the world. "Gaming" only. If you plan Stream, look movies, videos, encode in your secondary monitor an I5 specialy in demanding games will suffer.

So if you have the money think in the future and get a I7. Also thinking in the future get a R9 390X instead of 970 gtx. The 970 its good card now but if you want a video card last 3 years the R9 390X its a more solid option, specially if you have plans play 4k res in the next years.

i have been looking at what i want to upgrade my machine, and i too have the choice between i5 6600k or i7 4790k.

prices for me are coming in around the same, with both on asus boards and fast ram (adding 8gb ddr3 to what i have now, or 16gb ddr4)

so what would be the best bang for buck between the 2 cpu's, taking future gaming into consideration where 8 threads/cores are becoming recommended for new releases and if the 1151 socket will be here a while or not, for further upgrade possibilities?

8 GB of vram vs 4 gb of vram. Only cost about 25 - 30 dolars more
