Hi!
So i have my new rig bought 6 months ago or so with i5 6600k, asus z170 pro gaming, hyper x savage 2x 8gb 2400mhz cl 12(in xmp mode). Well, i was doing some stress tests with aida back when i bought it. It run 4.4ghz with manual 1.25v. All was running great, even heavy cpu intensive games like battlefield 4. ut recently i got bsod in mankind devided after 3 hour gameplay so i increased vcore to 1.265. Then recently after 15 hours of gameplay(not straight) got bsod in overwatch. it suprised me because this game isnt cpu heavy so i increased vcore to 1.28. No bsod so far BUT when i play R6 Siege(its quite cpu intensive game) and i alt tab it to firefox when game is still running i get random bsod or freez with buzzing sound and i need to press restart. It only happens when game is minimanized and i browse web, never had bsod during actuall gameplay in this game. But today i decided to set default bios settings and didnt got bsod when minimanizing game(but my turbo was only at 3.6ghz instead of 3.9ghz, why?).

I also playd tone of other games like witcher 3 and never had bsod. can someone explain it to me? I dont want to go higher with voltages, becase at 1.28 my max core temp noticed by speedfan are 67, when running default its only 52.

Memtest is specifically for memory or RAM. Dont run it from within Windows, because that is loaded into the memory while its running. Could be software issue if it does register a problem but doesnt give you a proper answer.

Your bios in the Asus motherboard should have its own memtest ability that you can run from there, without booting to any OS. That should give you a clean test. if you still dont get any errors, then we move on to something ells.

Try re-seating your components and power cables. RAM, video card, anything physically installed. Also, consider re-apply thermal paste for your CPU cooler. If temp spikes are causing the BSOD, then checking the cooler and your air flow will be next step.

What CPU cooler did you get...

What happens if you go back to stock settings? Your chip may not be doing well with the overclock. I would suggest going back to stock and see if the same behavior happens. If not, do modest incremental steps up in clock speed and test again.

What sort of cooling do you have on that CPU? Water? Air? If you got a cheap cooler, that could be an issue. Also, you might want to make sure you have good air flow in your case. More details on these things may help.

Well, when i bought it it turbo to 3.9 ghz, now even when watching 4k video on yt it turbos max to 3.7ghz.

About voltages. I set them now to 1.285v. Problem is multiple programs show different values. cpu-z show 1.280 all the time, hdmonitor doesnt show at all, only vid and AI3 suie shows 1.280 and 1.296 when in high load. why its not 1.285 as i manually set it in bios?

But anyway, do you think RAM xmp profile might be the issue here? If cpu was unstable it would bsod in every cpu intensive game, not when game is alt tabed and dont eat so much resources? I run windows memory diagnostic in the past but tests went well. about memtest. i tried to do that in the past and it only screwd my pendrive doing nothing.

XMP sets your CAS setting on the memory to the supported profile for your RAM. If you are not sure about manually setting the CAS on your RAM, just leave it to the XMP settings and you should be fine on that front.

Update your bios and all of your drivers if you havent already.

i have newest bios. I think it might be ram issue. i have hyper x savage 2x 8gb 2400 mhz cl 12. no hyperx are listed on the ram supported list. when i set those to auto(downclocked) there is no bsod when alt tab so far... .

HyperX isnt bad. Should have a decent warranty too. This is why I was saying run memtest though. Running that a few times should confirm if this is the right point of failure or not. Run it with XMP off and then on as well to see if that affects it.

i run it with xmp on, from bios(which is weird, i remember using this program in the past and was testing from windows), it lasted over 4 hours... . But there was 0 errors and iam not sure if it was tesing memory or cpus(hammering ?).

What CPU cooler did you get? Also, what case? This can help us with figuring out if you having cooling issues.
