Hello!
I recently thought of building a new PC for drawing/modeling and playing games. The skylake i5 6600k seems to be the sweet spot for me, as I need quite a bit of juice and the 6700k is a bit too pricey.
Although I know a lot about hardware and I know what I want, I just don't know enough about overclocking.
I know for sure I will be useing the 6600k in pair with the MSI Z170 Gaming AC mini ITX motherboard. The package will be cooled with either a big old nochtua cooler or Be Quiet dark rock pro 3, witch should be enough. (I just don't really like AIO water coolers.)
My question is - can I overclock to 4.0 or 4.2 GHz stable without adding any voltage? The more stable it is and less the damage over time, the better, as this is an investment for following 4 or so years.
Thank you for all the help!

You won't be able to get to 4.2GHz without increasing your voltage. And adding a bit of voltage would not hurt. The worst that could happen is it takes two years off your CPU which is designed to last 20+ years.

My point is, as long as you don't over volt and your temps are ok, your chip will definetely not die before you upgrade.
