Hey guys, with my PC I would like to mainly game but I was looking in the future to start up a youtube channel and probably dabble into some video editing. I would also like to overclock a bit. I don't know if I should stay with a i5-6600k or bump up my CPU to a i7-6700k.

Thanks!

Helpful information (Maybe) :
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
GPU: GTX 1070 MSI Gaming X

For you the I7 6700K will be a hell of a lot better, the I7 is one of the best if not the best gaming CPU you can get, Xeon may outrank them but thats besides the point, and the I5 will not give the same rendering, editing, and streaming/youtube video making performance as the I7 will, i would totally recommend the I7 by far. That heatsink will work just fine and also the I7 will run a 4 way sli with GTX 1080's so you are good there to. This is with my experience others may not agree, but you cant argue at the absolute least that they are both great CPU's, with more gaming side though the I5 will be plenty enough for a 4 way sli with 1080's as well and will perform around the same as the I7 until you hit the youtube/streaming related...

Well if you already own the 6600k, i say keep it and update when needed, as in when you actually start video editing and stuff. By that time maybe Caby lake will be out as those will work on z170. If, on the contrary, you are trying to decide what to get out of the two, definitely go with the i7.

i5 6600K: Running a game while music on a chrome Tab in the background and some normal antivirus ect running maybe skype aswell.
Summary: Gaming orianted and slight multitasking while ingame. All games run extremely well and Bottlenecks no card in the market.

i7 6700k: Running a game while music on multiple chrome Tabs in the background while streaming and having a skype call.
Summary: Intense multitasking while same or not better noticeably performance as the i5 in games, Video editing and rendering oriented.

^ Get the i7 it will suit you better in the long run.

People start up youtube channels and edit videos on core 2 duos. it may take a longer time to make videos but no one really ever just goes out and buys the highest end stuff right away when they are just starting something. So if you're just starting video editing you won't really be doing as much as far as editing and effects go as the larger channels. So you are much better off just learning everything on your i5.

Once you get the video editing experience upgrade then, or if you actually make good money and end up doing it a lot then upgrade

I agree with you. In my haste, I didn't realize OP had i5-6600k. OP should stay with it and try editing and see how it goes. My guess..upgrade isn't worth it.
