I am from Montreal QC
I want to overclock my i5 6600K but the Z170 is less available in major retailers and I do not want to risk anything with eBay. Should i go with z270. I plan to get a gtx 1080 and I plan to get i7 7700K (later)
and get a 1440P monitor with gsync

Solution

I didn't just give you a fish. I suggested you visit the board's webpage. I go there and click on Support, CPU and Memory Support,

I see the 66 and 7700K on that page as well https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-Z270E-GAMING/HelpDesk_CPU/

The answer is yes.

Sure. It helps to be specific with compatibility questions. Z270 covers hundreds of models which may or may not accept that chip. Let's assume you went with Gigayte's GA-Z270P-D3 motherboard. I would visit the site, click on support, click on my OS and then on CPU support and I see

Intel Core i5-6600K 3.50GHz 6MB 350 MHz / 1200 MHz Skylake 14nm R0 91W 100 F1
Intel Core i5-6600 3.30GHz 6MB 350 MHz / 1200 MHz Skylake 14nm R0 65W 100 F1
Intel Core i5-6600T 2.70GHz 6MB 350 MHz / 1150 MHz Skylake 14nm R0 35W 100 F1
Intel Core i5-6500 3.20GHz 6MB 350 MHz / 1200 MHz Skylake 14nm R0 65W 100 F1
Intel Core i5-6500T 2.50GHz 6MB 350 MHz / 1150 MHz Skylake 14nm R0 35W 100 F1

among many other CPU's https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z270P-D3-rev-10#support-cpu

The answer is yes.

All Z270 motherboards work with that processor no problems.
