I5-750 has one hot core

Hi,

My i5-750 overclocked to 3.8ghz has one core that runs hot. Idle temps are 34,26,31,27. It's the core0 at 34 that bugs me. Is it worth removing the HSF and redoing with AS5 (it has AS5 now, but maybe its a bad bond). Or is it unlikely to make a difference?

No. There is variation in each core with intel processors. I would also not consider 34C idle hot. I would be worried about load temperatures if anything. I doubt it will make a difference.

I also have a i5-750 and its core #0 temp is also the highest.

BTW, I had tried reapplying thermal compound for 4 times but made no difference.

Ok, good to know. Yes it is the load temp that concerns me, because the system is 100% stable for use, but Prime95 makes core0 go over 70c which makes me uncomfortable, so I always stop it.

I have noticed variations occasionally. It is possible that the sensor is bad and the temps aren't really that high. You could of course remove the cooler and make sure that the thermal compound is applied properly, but in reality I think the cores are packed pretty tightly on the silicon and it would be hard to get variations due to bad installation of thermal compound unless it was really bad.

Initial thoughts:

I would also be concerned but I'm a temp whore. However, other people with I5s are saying its cool so I guess it does not sound too bad. I DO, however, want an explanation why i5s do this yet my dual core is PERFECTLY synchronized.
