i5-7500 or better?

So I am about to purchase a new CPU along with a new Motherboard, and I've ended up with the i5-7500, because it's the same price point as i5-6500 (so why would I buy the older model), and the FPS drop in games compared to an i7-7600 seems to be realtively low (compared to the price).

Right now I own a GTX 970, and from what I can gather the i5-7500 should have no issue with that card, but I probably will upgrade to a 1070 or 1080, or even buying another 970 in the near future, so could that create a bottleneck?


To sum up, I wanna know if I should go for the i7 instead of the i5, or if the i5 is plenty for the gtx 970 and the 1070/1080 or 2x gtx 970 sli
(should also be noted I play games in 1920x1080 right now, but might go for a higher resolution once I choose to make a GFX upgrade, this will obviously only happen if I go for a 1070 or 1080, but I like to keep my options open none the less)

Any last generation or two i5 / i7 processor is more than enough for any single graphics card and most SLI setups. If you think you might eventually go to something like a 1070 or 1080 SLI setup and really plan to push high resolutions at 1440p and beyond, I'd spend the bit of extra money for the i7 as you'll get far longer life out of it.
