Hey guys
I am building an entry level pc for myself with specs
I5 7400
Nvidia gtx 1060ti (3 gb or 6gb not decided)
8gb ram (single stick to expand with another 8gb stick)
I have 2 questions
1. Is it a good time to buy this build? (with the release of new cards)
2. Is it a good build to pull off recent and upcoming games?

Thank you in advance :)

Hey man, so this build should be able to run recent and upcoming games, with medium video settings. Right now, I would say it is an okay time to build because as far as I know, Nvidia is releasing their new cards Q2 or Q3 of this year. The only products that I believe are worth waiting for are the new Ryzen+ products coming out in late feb/early march. Those will be affordable CPU options.

1060 and 7400 should be able to run games just fine. At this very instance, it is a pretty horrible time to build a PC. The reasons for this being that RAM and GPU pricing are both ridiculously high.

It is worth waiting until the cryptocurrency bubble pops and Ryzen+. If you need a computer now, then buy what you have picked out. If not, it would be preferable to wait until prices are favorable and there are more options in the market.

Thanks for the answer,
My main concern is about 1080p resolution at at least 50-60 fps on medium to high settings I'm not that hardcore gamer.
And are q2 and q3 are on the same price bracket?

@king_V
Yeah i know about the dual channel and same ram sticks for optimal use
I just don't have the money to get it all at once so I'm leaving the option of that by buying a single stick right now and will expand later

I think you should be fine on 1080p with 60 fps. When I said Q2 and Q3, I was relating to segments of the year. Years are separated into 4 quarters, Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4. At the beginning of the year, instead of releasing an exact date or month, companies will release the quarter that they are planning on releasing a product. So Nvidia is planning on releasing their new cards Q2 or Q3 of this year. I would imagine that some of the cards would be in the same price bracket. Nvidia typically releases the budget cards first, so they would release a 2060 or 2070, etc. These cards will probably be in the same price range as their predecessors, but with better performance.

To answer more on your original question, I personally would wait for Ryzen+ to come out. These new CPU's are going to be more power efficient, but faster than last years CPU's. So those CPU's should come out in late feb/early march.
