i5 8400 and GTX 1070 enough for 1080p 144hz gaming?

I just bought a i5 8400 to pair with my GTX 1070. I don't really know if this was a mistake or not. Will the i5 8400 be good enough to game at 1080p 144hz?

Yes it will be good enough. i5-8400 is comparable to 7th-gen i7 in gaming performance.
