Hello, do you think its worth upgrading my one year old i5 8600 non k to ryzen 3900x ? I am photographer so i use PC to edit photos (photoshop, capture one) and also a lot of gaming. Upgrade would mean new cpu, x570 mobo and maybe faster ram. Upgrade would cost arround 830usd or arround 1000Usd with faster ram. My PC: i5 8600, 32 gb 2400mhz ram, 1080ti, 512gb m.2, 512gb ssd, 1tb hdd. Thank you.

You don't really need to go all the way to the Ry3900X, but if you have the shekels, you absolutely can. I'd recommend you to get a Ry3700X or even a Ry3600X instead as it wouldn't be an expensive upgrade and it would still serve your needs perfectly well.

The only thing you'd need changing, besides the Motherboard and CPU, is the RAM. That's really slow speed for Ryzen, so you will want to get 3200Mhz+. It would also keep your power budget more or less the same, so no need to change the Power Supply Unit (PSU).

Cheers!

I mean, yeah, it's definitely worth it. But why didn't you buy better hardware in the first place? That's a pretty vast difference in performance.

If your a competitive gamer then i would chose intel. For everything else amd's better. But instead of going for the 9900k which are damn expensive and an oven(need good cooling)Get a 9700k.It's cheaper and can match the 9900k when oc'd.It's just for gaming if you do video editing on your game play etc then the 3900x makes sense

the 3000 series gains quite a bit when RAM speeds are at 3200-3600 MHz... ; 2400 MHz RAM would cap performance somewhat...

With a few now mumbling about potential 3900X /mainboard BIOS issues, I'd give this a full month or two, then re-evaluate....
