Hello,

I'm looking for advice on what my money would be better spent on.

For the same price, I can get an i5 8600k and very fast (3,500/2,500 read/write) M2 SSD, or I can get a standard decent SATA SSD and use the $100 savings to upgrade to the i7 8700k.

What would give me be better day to day performance? I mostly play games and use regular office applications. I don't do any professional editing or work.

I would love to get your thoughts!

Personally would go with the i7-8700k and the SATA SSD combo.

The i7 should be better in the long run than the i5.

The consideration with the SSDs is that they're so much quicker than the old mechanical hard drives that their speed differences are academic in normal usage. That is to say, a SATA SSD and a PCIe SSD are difficult to tell apart during normal usage. I am assuming by M.2 you mean PCIe because M.2 SSDs can be SATA or PCIe.
