i5 8600k at unstable 40 degrees idle, high 60s during gaming (fortnite)

I have the masterliquid ml120l, 3 case fans and a gtx 1080.
z370-h motherboard
Why is my cpu temps so high?
Side question:
I have 8x2 gigs of RAM, but only 1 shows up? missplaced? I have them in A1 and B1.
I belive that the temps are unstable because i applied to much thermal paste? or does that matter? maybe I put the heatsink on badly? I have no idea

Solution
not bashing or something, but AiOs are generally shinny toys, not coolers.
120mm AiO is a complete joke.
With all that, the temps of your CPU are well within the safe limit - so nothing to worry about until you see over 80C.
as for your RAM, you should use first and third slots from the CPU.

Yeah, low-end AIOs tend to be a good deal worse than a competent air cooler. They're best for very small builds that can fit a radiator but not a chunky heatsink.

Your temperatures aren't the least bit concerning. Not great or anything, but neither is your cooling solution.

As for the RAM, verify from your motherboard's documentation you have them in the correct slots and reseat them. Since they are new, if you still have issues, you should just RMA them instead of beating yourself in the head (RAM issues can be obnoxious to solve sometimes).

The 120mm is the problem. If you can't use a larger radiator, you'll get better results with a less expensive, more effective air cooler.

What good looking aircooler do you recomend? I have tg panel so i would like that is looks alright.
I know noctua makes great air coolers but they are really ugly. Hyper evo 212? max height 160mm

temps will only be stable under a full load....

Just sitting surfing the net, your temps will jump wildly with the brief bursts in clock speeds, and then rapidly fall as clock speeds plummet down to as low as 800 MHz....

As for RAM sticks, check your manual for which two sticks should be populated; check each stick individually.

60C temps in gaming are quite good, almost surprisingly so....

AN 8600K needs a cooler that was at least adequate for a 7700K and above....

A tiny radiator is not the new epitome of cooling because it has some fluid pumping thru it...

If your case is wide enough to accommodate a Noctua cooler, it generally outperforms all but the VERY best fluid-based coolers costing $200-$300

High 60's is barely warm for an Intel CPU; what's the highest temperature you're reached while stressing it? Did it ever get to 100°C and throttle? If it stays at or below 80°C, then you have nothing to worry about.

Hi I have one more question. My cpu (i5 8600k) is very unstable and sometimes only pushing out 1,5 ghz, and some times 3 and rarely 3,6. is this normal? If not how can I fix it?
