It depends on what you intend to use it for. They have the same number of physical cores, but the i7 has hyperthreading for better multithreaded performance. On a side note, if you're going to spend that much on the CPU + Mobo, I would absolutely suggest going ahead and getting 16 GB of RAM. It's a lot easier to buy a 2 stick kit at the beginning than trying to sort it out later.
