i5-8600K Overclocking Help

Hey guys, so I just got my 8600K and I am seriously pissed. I have it on a MSI Z370 PRO CARBON (Non-AC) motherboard. I set the multiplier to 50 (Equaling to 5.0GHz) and tried to set the Core voltage (or what I think it is) to 1.35V like everyone else. Fine, I boot up nicely. Then I run AIDA64 for less than 5 minutes and it crashes. I can run Cinebench R15 all day no problems.

I am confused on which one I should be changing for the voltage and how much?!

Core Voltage?

Yeahhhhh.....I think I fixed it? I set the voltage to auto and the BIOS ramped it up to 1.45-ish or something like that and I've been running AIDA64 with it at 5GHz for 22 minutes as of now, and there aren't any problems....any advice on this? Thanks for the reply.

Nope. I've overclocked just about everything else, including my 5930k. But every chip is unique, so even if I had the exact same everything as you we'd still have different settings. If you want to compare your settings to others google for reviews on the system. They typically post their tested settings. Remember good cooling is just as important as the perfect voltage.

Yup. You want a safety margin, and this is the simplest way to achieve it. If you want to go right to the edge, the siliconlottery site will delid and use metal/solder in stead of glue for a few bucks. It will give you lower temps and a more stable overclock. When I goto a 8700k (or 9700k more likely) I intend to buy my cpu and ship it to that guy. I could delid the CPU (I have done this in the past) but he wants so little for his work and warranties that it is done correctly that it is just a no-brainer to me.

Have you adjusted other voltages, IO SA?

What other settings have you tried?

My 8700k wouldn't boot at 5ghz until I updated to latest BIOS no matter what voltage I applied, and still is not stable.

These chips are hot, most are going to need a delid, bjornl's advice is solid.

80c is not bad during stress testing. I am amazed it worked with auto on the voltage. Even with those good temps, I would still be concerned running it at v1.45. If this is accurate, it is very high. Likely in to the danger zone. Maybe consider Intel's overclocking insurance for $40 bucks?
