i5-8600k vs AMD Ryzen 5 2600x [ Gaming ]

So there are probably many similar questions out there that are similar. However I still am not able to make a choice.

So an AMD Ryzen 5 2600X or an i5-8600K (delid version). In terms of Future proof and gaming.

Because AMD has more threads compared to intel, the i5 can be OC'd way higher which results in better FPS count, but I have to sacrifice more because of the cooler. But if I run it at stock it won't do that well in terms of multi tasking or gaming. But with the Ryzen 5 I have more threading and I'm still able to OC them to 4.3Ghz etc, with its stock cooler.

Maybe I am wrong, but like I said If I could I would obviously go for the i7-8700k or the i7-8700 but budget wise won't let me..

Solution
So best if I just stick with an i5-8600k and get a better cooler after a year or so.
That's what I would do personally. You're guaranteed a better performance in gaming for now.
Also, you'll probably be bottlenecked by the GPU when gaming unless you're pushing 200 FPS, so don't worry too much about the CPU.

Looking at 1440p 1920x1080 not really up to 4K. Using the Asus ROG PG248Q monitor. GPU will most likely be a 1070TI, but if I get an i5-8600k vs the Ryzen 5 2600x in terms of multi threading... and future proof.

Either way would be a good choice. I think it woudl be personal preference. I would probably rather go with the 8600K + 1070 Ti because I see the 8600K being more than 10% faster than the 2600X in some games while the 1080 is at most only 9-10% faster than the 1070 Ti. So, there will be times in which the 8600K + 1070 Ti will outperform the 2600X + 1080. Not a lot, but there will be a few times in a few games. Especially since the 8600K can do 5.0GHz or more.

Well if I go for the i5-8600k I'll have to spend to get a good cooler to oc to 5.0 ghz, if I get the ryzen 5 2600x with stock cooler I won't have to worry about the cooler yet and can opt for a 1080 instead

future proof.
8600K vs 2600X. How long are you going to keep this system for? 5+ years. It could game engines quite long time to use 4 cores and games that take complete advantage of 4+ cores are quite rare right now.

You don't need to buy one right now. You could buy a great air cooler fot 40-60$ next year.

Also, do note Ryzen's issue with overclocking and RAM. If you're planning long term I advice Intel.
