Alright, hello good forum, I'm planning on buying a gaming laptop for gaming, duh. So i have picked one but I have my doubts. Talking about ASUS ROG STRIX G531, there are 2 cpu variants, I7 9 gen ($1250, $980 on sales) and I5 9 gen ($1,000, $890 during sales). But with GTX 1650, tho i expect at least 1660ti with I7 but that's okay. These are being looked upon from the Indian market, the i7 variant also comes with a 120hz display. The downside of this release vs. US/GLOBAL release is the lack of GTX 1660ti, USB type C, and 4 zone keyboard.

The doubt comes that,
is paying almost $100 more for i7, 120hz worth it? Paired with a GTX 1650, isn't i7 too overkill but 120hz is eye catching.

Also I would get the international variant if it's possible because the lack of USB type C bugs me. (Tho it's not much use to me right now but future proofing).

Sorry for long description, also i would like a few suggestions of other laptops if they're better.(I fell for this design and ROG logo in budget 😛 can't get my eyes off)

Solution
Msi gt63 titan 8gr 4k version
(usually i prefer asus but this one was new and dirt cheap for what it can offer)

Im saying you wont get the fps needed to properly use the 120hz screen

In games it will behave like a 60hz screen because the 1650 cant push that many frames

If thats your usage the i5 is plenty

If you want 120hz and want to actually "use it" you need at least like a 1660 ti or 2060
Or preferably a 2070 otherwise its wasted money

You can limit both the processor and the screen when you want better battery life i wouldnt worry about that

I7+120hz is pretty good for 100$ thou so if you would be able to use it i would say go for it
shame :/
Rog strix is good i was also looking at thoes but i went with msi coz it was cheaper and had a 4k screen xP

In regards to the difference
There are very important varriables like what do you want to use it for?

I very much doubt that the 1650 can achive 120fps in most games nowdays

But if you want to play like more than 10 year old games i think it could be managable

The i5 is plenty for the 1650
But also usecase the i7 will open zip files faster convert videos faster and multitask better

You wont get more fps with the i7 but in case when you have multiple things running it can help

Hello, @not you , thanks for replying,

Can you tell me which msi you went for?

Also my purposes would be mainly gaming and a bit of mild processor usage work apart from that. I'm still a student though.

So i guess i shouldn't drool for 120hz?
