I want to play a few games, mainly fortnite (Yes, I know...)

CPU:
i5 8400
GPU: 1060 6GB
RAM: 8GB

My fps typically hits 144 capped on fortnite.
It drops every so often to 90-130 fps for a few seconds in a intense fight or while building really fast.
The reason why I want to cpu upgrade is because I want to hit a consistent 144fps which can drastically improve gameplay.

But my second option is an Asus ROG Swift PG258Q. I really want this monitor as it can provide 244hz & that would help make me much more competitive in terms of skill.
But I am also worried I won’t be able to reach a consistent fps, let alone 244hz.
My current CPU can only manage 240fps when I’m not doing things like fighting or building.

Also I’ll throw in this question in while I’m here in the CPU section.

144 capped my CPU is at 60-80%.
240 capped my CPU hits 100% at about 50-60 degrees.
GPU hangs at about 20% 144 capped & 240 capped about 40-60%.
Is this a Bottleneck?

Personally I think people are gonna go for CPU upgrade.
People are gonna say there isn’t much difference between 144hz & 240hz . I tried it out and 240hz felt so much more smooth & clear than 144hz.
(Probably because I don’t hit a consistent 144fps)

I didn’t know what section to post this in since there are two different parts to choose from.
Also sorry for poor formatting, I’m on my phone & not currently at home.
Thanks

Honestly, I would not upgrade your CPU cause it would barely be an upgrade. The 9600k will give you 3% better fps than the 8400. To me, I cant see a 3% increase in fps let along justify the cost of the 9600k. Here is the review below with the performance summary.

I would go with the monitor, you already have a really good CPU for gaming.
