Question i5 9600k overheating

I just purchased a new gaming pc from argos it comes with a i5 9600k and liquid cooler . The odd thing is that the temperature is at 76 degrees and thats without gaming or stress testing . i was planning on overclocking but as soon i saw the temperature theres no chance.Any advise would be much appreciated .

You should probably combine those two threads.

I would say the cooler is not installed properly or the pump isn't working. Everything plugged in?

if its something prebuilt (with warranty void if u open it), u should probably RMA it

its a pre built pc with the following specs

i5 9600k ( 77 degrees at 3.7 ghz)
rtx 2060 ( i replaced it with a rtx 2080)
16gb ram
cooler master liquid cooler .

The only possible issue i can think of there might be some wrappers that are still attached to the cooler etc . but will do a check now and keep it updated .

Wait, are you saying it is idle at 76 degrees? Because that is very bad and indicates a failure in your cooling system. Under load that isn't a horrible temp, but if that it idle you need to get on the phone right now with the seller because they done screwed up.

nothing inside the pc , hmmm not sure whats wrong . might need to call the seller tomorrow as i have 2 years warranty with it .

update 1 :after i enabled xmp temperature is at 37 idle ,

I still think something is wrong here. There is absolutely no reason that the CPU temp should be so high at idle. XMP fixing that doesn't make any sense. Have you tried hitting it with a stress test since turning on XMP?

Yes after 20 min of stress testing i reached 96 degrees.oh and yes i wanted to mention that in cpu z it says im on 4.3ghz and in the bios im on 3.7 .

Will run another stress test tomorrow on prime 95 version 26.6 as this is best and accurate version for stress testing , as anything higher then that will eat more.
