Question I5 9600k vs i7 8700 for 2k gaming 60fps

Hello everyone! I was thinking which of theese cpus (the i5 9600k 3.6ghz 6 core 6 thread or the i7 8700 non k 3.2ghz 6 core 12 threads)is best for gaming at 2k monitor 60fps.i also have gtx 1070 gigabyte g1 gaming. I currently have i5 4670 3.4 ghz and has proven a very good cpu. Along with 8gb ram dual channel 1600mhz. I have a noctua NH U14s cooler for cpu which i have checked that fits both cpus.also with thermaltake 750watt psu.i wont do any overclocking and the main use will be for gaming.i dont do any productivity.just gaming (at 60fps and higher settings as possible)and internet browsing.

For 60fps the 9600k is plenty for today’s games. However the 8700 will probably last longer due to its extra threads.

However for 60fps gaming I’d get the Ryzen 2600. It looks the better long term buy with its extra threads and is cheaper too.

thanks. i have seen some videos on youtube where they compare theese two and the i5 is slightly better due to its better single core clocking. also what motherboard chipset do i need for theese cpus? z390? z370? i have read that the 9th gen cpu need a bios update on the motherboards. i would like o motherboard that would support it without going into that trouble. i will also check the ryzen!

For 60 FPS gaming you won't see a difference between those CPUs.

The 8700 has the same single core turbo speed as the 9600k.

1. Do i need a specific chipset for the 8700? Or just anything that supports lga 1151?

2)the ryzen 2600 is it a better choise?
It has the same cores/threads as i7 with higher clocks and mich more cheaper? How is this happening?🤔😁

Any Intel 300 series motherboard will support the 8700. H310, B360, B365, H370, Z370, Z390,

The 2600 has lower clock speeds and will therefore have a little worse performance in lightly threaded applications. It's still a great gaming CPU, and is plenty for 60 FPS gaming. It would be a good option if you want to save a bit of money. Although I'd say the ultimate bang for buck right now is probably the Ryzen 1600 for only $120; if you're willing to overclock it will perform nearly the same as the 2600.

AMD should be unveiling its next gen CPUs in a month or two, which will use the same socket. So if you get a good B450 motherboard you'd have the option to upgrade in the future. There are a lot of rumors and speculation about how they will perform, but unfortunately there's no way to no for sure until they're out.

thank you all for the information.i will take everything into consideration. one last question. the intel 300 series motheroard will also support 9th gen cpus without bios update?or newer chipsets will come?

Other than Z390, 300 chipsets generally require a minimum BIOS revision to support 9th gen. You'd have to confirm with the retailer what BIOS it ships with. Z390 is guaranteed to support the initial 9th gen chips that came out, but I believe may still require an update to support the ones that came out later (e.g. the 'F' chips that don't have integrated graphics).
