I'm looking to play games like Fortnite at 1080p 144Hz, OC being parts and pairing it with a rtx 2060. Keeping in mind price and performance, which would be the better choice?

Solution
It's simple. If you don't play at 4K, always get Intel (i5,i7,i9).
If you wanna stream and other stuff too, get a Ryzen.
If you wanna game and also stream but mostly care about gaming, i7.

Also for your specific GPU EVEN IF YOU OC THE 2700X YOU WILL GET JUST UNDER 144 FPS. So yea, clearly get a 8600k if you only want to game. 8700k if you want to also do other stuff, or just overall have your PC work better while doing more than just gaming.
If you prefer go for 9600k or 9700k for the same reasons.

stop pushing AMD down people's throat for "better value" if that value is below what he wants.

2700 series is better price and performance.
dont forget the cost of the different motherboards... find the one you like for both and price compare. It will be up to you if a couple frames is worth the extra amount

The 2700 might be a better price (by $30-$35 on Amazon?), but it will certainly not outperform or come close to matching the 9600K at gaming, especially in a 144 Hz monitor scenario....( in fact, the 2700 must be OC'd to match the 25 month old stock 7700K) My math shows the stock 9600K ahead of stock 2700 by 33% in Far Cry 5 at 1440P as well... (So although the 9600K costs 12% more, it gives 33% and 37% more performance at 1440P/1080P, if that matters...and being down to only 102 fps average compared to 140 fps can matter when on 144 Hz refresh monitor)

Anyone may peruse actual gaming results/benchmarks at 1080P themselves....
