i5 9600k vs ryzen 2700x

So the title pretty much sums it all. I currently have an fx 8350 with a gtx 1080 that's bottlenecked like crazy I have the same fps I had with the gtx 1060. Anyway the thing is that in my country the i5 9600k is a bit cheaper and with the extra money I can buy a beefier motherboard like the msi z370 sli plus I already have an aftermarket cooler so that won't be an issue. I just want to know what should I buy. I also have a 2k monitor 75hz.

I only game but in two years I'm going to university and I don't want to buy another computer but I think the 9600k can handle some light solidworks. I would like to keep the one I get at least 3 years. I really want to get the best bang for my buck. So can anyone tell me if I made the right choice by considering the i5? And if yes is the msi z370 sli plus good for overclocking?

The 9600K is a very good gaming CPU and will see you through some light production work as well...The only thing I would suggest is a Z390 motherboard for longevity as in 2 or 3 or 4 years you can drop a 9900K if it ever drops in price....

As to the motherboard, I would go with something like the Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X as it is cost effective at just $129.99 and has a 10+2 Phase VRM with good cooling so overclocking is a breeze.

Finally you might also want to take a look at the Ryzen 2600/2700 as they to will do a good job, not as good as the 9600K in gaming but better on the productivity side, though unless you are a semi professional or professional user both CPU's will do the job more than well enough...Both the 9600K and the 2700X are good choices, just a balance on what you want most and on what you are willing to spend with some more value out of Ryzen..
