I5 Build

Been looking for a new computer, I've done quite a bit of research but its really hard to update yourself on everything when you don't keep track of it. I would like some opinions :) (some of this may look a little odd, because I am buying from 2 different local stores which have a supply of certain brands only, this IS my ONLY option, I have about 1000 to spend at each of them)

What I've come up with is;

CPU; i5 3750k
CPU Cooling; Corsair h60, if able I will get the h100 => Will be looking to overclock
Mobo; ASUS Maximus V Formula Intel Z77 Express
Ram; Corsair CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10 Vengeance - 16GB
GPU; Gigabyte 7970 No plans for crossfire (do not care for nVidia) will overclock after a year or two
HDD; WD velociraptor
PSU; Corsair 650w modular
Case; Full Tower COOLER MASTER

I feel like the Ram is behind all the other items (performance wise) maybe I should go with dominator? I've had a few people tell me that I did not need any better than vengeance. As for GPU I did some reasearch and this one seems to be a good choice, its between asus which doesnt overclock and msi versions. Although MSI has LIGHTNING version of the 7970, but the clock setting on Gigabyte 1100mhz are already higher than lighting1070mhz, which seems like a better value for more or less the same thing.

I changed this set up to 3750k with asus maximus but I was going for asus sabertooth with i5 2550k, but the new gen is out and its not to expensive to get the new gen set up, so I might as well right?

honestly the velociraptor is a bit of a waste money wise. either get a caviar black/blue or an SSD if you can afford it. the velociraptor are better suited for a "scratch disk" for video editing/rendering where an SSD would be too costly.

im used to spending on a good mobo, and doesnt the mobo affect overclocking of the CPU/stability of a system and the options in bios???

I looked at SSDs and they are extremely expensive, I am just looking to get a 500gb velociraptor cuz that is going to be enough for my needs, but 120gb SSD drive is not going to cut it especially for same price as the velociraptor.......

here's a little research that I did

I looked it up, it's got an H77 chipset which I see does NOT allow overclock on CPU, which I would like to do. Thanks for suggestion though.

From what I see the issue is the motherboard price? I just don't see much of a reason to move Down... yes I know it's cheaper but... I have all of these items fitting into my budget

Sorry It's called the asrock z77 pro4. My bad, I should have been more descriptive.

you must be looking at the wrong board . . .

Z77 Pro4

Ah yes I was, just the place im getting the board has several pro4s just picked the wrong one.

well ive done a search on this forum just now and found a couple of threads advising Asus over the asrock ... so i think ill stick with it anyways. besides... the 3 builds that ive had did not have any problems with mobos, while my friends who built with EVGA/MSI have had quite a few hickups in their mobo/or issues caused by them. (yes i know ive said i did 3 builds so why am i asking for advice? because my builds are far apart in time, every 3years on average)
