I want to build a system in a budget, and back then the i5-4460 was one of the go-to processors when building with a 'good-enough budget'.

Which i5 is the go-to in the Skylake or Kaby Lake lines?

Solution
i5s have lost there luster as go to CPUs for gaming. Most knowledgeable folks will tell you to get an AMD Ryzen CPU with at least 6C/12T for gaming these days for that price bracket or to wait on the Coffee Lake launch the 21st with 6C/6T i5s and 6C/12T i7s. Even 4C/8T Intel CPUs are tough to recommend in this day and age for gaming. While the i7 7700K does better in gaming then most CPUs the second you add game streaming or any task that is multi-threaded (video encode/decode, rendering, etc) the i7 7700K starts to flounder. Point being an i5 4C/4T CPU just isn't a great gaming CPU any longer. So either go Ryzen R5 1600 or better, Intel 4C/8T like the i7 7700K or wait for coffee lake to launch the end of the month.

None atm. The ryzen r5 1600 is the way to go.
However intel is soon anouncing it's new coffee lake lineup which is featuring according to the info we have 6 core i5's. Those will probably become the way to go very soon. But who knows they might be terrible.

Best thing to do is wait and if you can't wait get a ryzen 1600 best value cpu out there atm.
