Probably anything smaller than a GTX980/390X will work great. DX12 will utilize your CPU better into the future as well.

Wait for 1070/1080.

The sky is the limit currently man. It shouldn't bottleneck any current GPU that much. Depends on your resolution. Maybe get the 1070.
