I am building a system for digital photo and video editing. No gaming. Would you recommend going with an i5 or i7 processor for this application? If so, which one? Not interested in OC. Looking for best bang for the buck.

Thanks!

I would recommend you using i7 3770k since it has hyper threading ht is for rendering, but reduces game performance (about 10%), i7 3770k is quiet the best option for video editing, i think that you should get it watercooled (maybe h90/h100) to get the most about your cpu, but if ur 100% sure that you are not going to oc, the go for the locked version of i7 3770 since ur not going to overclock it but i highly recommend you to buy the 3770k version with decent water cooler, but if you don't want it you should at least buy a decent air cooler, hyper 212 evo is a good option.

Good luck

What software are you using? The i5 is powerful enough but the i7 definitely give a bit more when using software like these.

If you are on a budget, the AMD chips are cheaper and are more powerful than the i5 at video and photo editing.

Thanks for the feedback. I will mainly be doing photo editing on 18MB digital photo files using Adobe Photoshop. I will also be doing some digital video editing but nothing too complex. I will probably use a Adobe package as well for the video editing. I would rather stay with Intel. Could I get decent performance with a lower cost i7 like the i7 2600?

but, 2600 (2nd generation sandybridge) has 2.0 pcie controller instead of 3.0 (latest for graphics card) so if you're going to buy that make sure ur gonna get a 2.0 pcie graphics card, 3770 (third generation ivy bridge supports 3.0 pcie) supports pcie 3.0 so u can put the latest card in there..
