Should I get a i5 4690k or a 1230 Xeon? I know a xeon is like a i7 but will the i5 beat it in with overclocking? I'm looking to do video editing and rendering and some gaming (only small games like League). All help is appreciated.

i5 *may* beat a Xeon in gaming, by a couple FPS, but in editing and rendering, Xeon has the aces, HTs come handy then. And even in gaming, its as good as i5, only games which heavily rely on single core performance gain from i5 over Xeon, that too by a couple FPS.

The Xeon is the better choice for video work. More cache and obviously the hyperthreading.

The Xeon we are talking about here is an E3-1230. This one's the low end model and if gaming is more important, this is not the choice to make. Here, the E3 1230 is a better choice since you are interested in video editing, which require hyperthreading. There you go!
