Hey guys I'm looking to buy a laptop, and I have 2 choices:

1. Lenovo y50
i7-4710hq
Gtx 860m 2GB
1tb HDD

2. Msi Gt60
i5-4200m
GTX 870m 3gb
750gb HDD
128gb SSD

Which system would perform better in pure gaming? Without considering photoshop, graphic rending,etc.. I want the laptop to last atleast 2-3 years so that I could be able to run the next gen games.

And is the i5 upgradable?

The i5 tends to hold its own for now with the i7 in gaming so I would go with the best GPU you can find which is the MSI out of these two. You may want to consider looking into the new 970m or 980m because from benchmarks they are way ahead of the 800 series. I have seen some nice ASUS ROG laptops on sale lately.

i5 has not got hyper threading i7 does have hyperthreading in gaming hyperthreading is not a performance increaser but if you video edit or use any multithreaded aplication then you will benifit from the i7 , if purely for gaming get the i5

You guys are forgetting that these are laptop cpus.

The i5 in question is actually a duo core with hyperthreading (basically an i3), while the i7 is a quad core with hyperthreading.

Together with the 400 mhz in core difference and double the amount of cache, I would much prefer the i7.

In the worst case scenario I could get the i5 one, and then upgrade it to i7-4700, because I've heard it's upgradable? And yes I'm only going to use it for gaming purposes, no editing whatsoever

On another note, how well do you guys think an i7-3610mq equipped with a Gtx 680m would perform next to these 2 models? This option just opened up to me, but I'm trying to not get some really old hardware though, even though this one is an alienware and probably upgradable. But I want it to last a few years for sure.
