Hi, so I'm gonna build a new gaming computer.
And I was wondering which of these processors I should buy.
INTEL Core I5-4690 3,5GHz
INTEL Core I7-4790 3,6GHz

My friend says it doesn't have much of a difference, but when I look at the specs, the i7 has more cache than the i5, so I'm not sure which processor I should buy.
I'm building a gaming computer btw.

Also, I can't put other processors in there since there's only 2 to choose from on this particular pc.

Thanks in advance.

Kindest Regards,
Louie Tien

See THIS post for some benchmark numbers between i5 vs i7 in COD:AW and Battlefield 4, both heavily multi-threaded games that should favour the i7.

In short, the i7 beats the i5 by a mere 5 FPS in COD:AW and 2 FPS in BF4. The question you have to ask yourself is: is this worth $100 more?

I would think the answer is no.
For gaming, go with I5-4690. An i5 4460 will be fine as well.
The clock speed won't matter much in gaming.
I7 don't offer much benefit for gaming. Hyper Threading isn't support in many games yet. it is more useful in video and image editing applications which cutting down time is important by few seconds/minutes.

it depends, rigth now few games need an i7 but in the future there will be an advantave to the i7 in games since new games are getting multitread suport from the current console ports, tho if you only need 60fps or less, an i5 will do just fine

fps doesent depend on i5 or i7 .... the chips used in i5 and i7 are practicaly the same... i7 just has a bit of extra features

yet,
look at this
CPU-FTV.png

not evrything is fps..
look at the time variance of the i5 vs the 6core i7 and the 8core amd,
the smotness of the higher core cout is much better then the i5
