i5 vs i7

I am not actually buying either of these cpu's I just wanted to clear up a question that I've had for a while because they are both quad cores and have similar single core performance so why is the i7 100 dollars more expensive.

It has Hyper Threading which makes it able to handle 8 threads at a time. The i5 does not.
