I5-xxxxX-series or I7-9700k?

Solution
Depends on your definition of the best. i9-9900K is the fastest. But it offers little performance gain over the i7-9700K right now. That may or may not change much in the future. History says it will, but it could be 1-2 years from now or it could be 5+ years from now.

I think the i7-9700K is the best gaming CPU right now considering the price difference. If money is not a factor then the i9-9900K is the fastest CPU for gaming right now.

Those are quad-cores. Same as the 8th-gen i3. There never was any reason to buy an X299 system to go with an i5X series. A waste of money mainly unless you needed the perks of the X-series platform more than you needed CPU power.

Maybe it would help if you told us what you currently have and what your intended purpose is for this system.

Absolutly agree with Volkgren as it would be great to know what you are going to be using the PC for....If for gaming primarily, I would avaid the X299 i5 series as it is older gen and only 4 cores and 4 threads which will only get worse with time...

For gaming only, a 8600K,9600K, 8700K or 9700K will be the best as all these CPU's provide the best fram rates...The 8700K with 6 cores and 12 threads if you can still find it at a good price is a fantastic CPU with great overclocking potential to 5GHz...The 9700K at 8 cores is also a very powerful gaming CPU though the difference between all the CPU's I have mentioned is very close...If you need to save money and want something cost effective that provides great value, then the Ryzen 2600 and 2700 are great value..

so Should I upgrade to the i7-9700k?

Then an i7-7800X would be a viable option. It's not as fast as an i7-8700K or 9700K, but it is still plenty fast with 6C/12T and should be relevant as long as the 8700K/9700K will be. And you will still have options for the 10, 12, 14, 16, or even 18-core Skylake-X Core i9 to upgrade that are compatible with your motherboard. https://pcpartpicker.com/products/cpu/#sort=price&page=1

CPU: Intel - Core i7-7800X 3.5 GHz 6-Core Processor ($361.97 @ Amazon)

I need the cpu with the most performance in games
what I learnt that the x series is not the best for gaming..

Yes, for the most part the 8C/8T is slightly faster. But Intel only did that so that it would be just that, slightly faster; enough to justify the crippling lack of hyper-threading. Intel only had to beat the i7-8700K by a slight margin, because they also have the i9-9900K.

Popular opinion would be that Skylake/Kabylake-X is plenty fast enough for gaming. But it's not the best choice for gaming because it costs more for the motherboard and some of the CPUs and also get's beat by Coffee Lake standard desktop CPUs. If you are picky and simply want the fastest, then yes you could switch to a Z390 with an i7 or i9 K-series.

I think I will go with the fastest option switch to the i7-9700k so do you know any good MOBO for this type of CPU?
does the I9 9900k is just a better version of the i7 9700k? does it worth it? performance per dollar?
bcuz none gamers use x299 cuz is actuallt not good for gaming..
(sorrry for being so annoying and more info)

Hyper-Threading (HT) is Intel's proprietary form of simultaneous multi-threading (SMT) which allows one physical core to be split in to two logical cores (aka threads), giving each core around a 30% increase in performance over a non-hyper threaded core. It's what 6C/12T means, 6 physical cores with 12 logical threads. The i7-9700K does not have HT, but the i9-9900K (and i7-8700K) do have HT. Different applications and games perform differently on hyper-threaded vs non-hyper threaded cores. Sometimes you can disable the HT on an i7 or i9 and gain performance if the game or application does not benefit from the extra threads. 8 threads is the sweet spot for games today. We don't really know if that will increase or stay the same in the future.

Which CPU is the best for gaming in you opinion?
i9-9900k (HT)
or
i7-9700k (8c/8t)
or
i7-8700k (HT)
